God led Paul through necessary circumstances, Paul had to leave
Macedonia is Greece
Part of the reason Paul went to Macedonia was to take up collections for the Jerusalem church
Paul always wanted to bring unity with Jewish Christians & Gentile Christians because there was separation, the Jewish believers still looked down at the Gentile believers
Paul would pour into the believers, Paul kept teaching edify, encouraging one another, that's what we should be do, then we all grow.
We don't just come to sing or hear a Bible study but we are to participate
A lot of times people don't know what to do in church after getting saved, just being spectators, rating whether the service was good or not.
The church has become like the world, like voyers, sneak around watching other Christians, so never become Christians
Many Christians leave the church because they've been hurt by other Christians,
There's pain in growing
God will give you a heart that will never be crushed,
no one can destroy you because your heart is in Christ
I have friends that were really on fire, now they don't go to church at all because they've been hurt, hurt by leadership in the church
Jesus took all the abuse, Jesus put Himself on the frontline where He could be assassinated
Jesus knew His life didn't belong to Himself.
We should be giving away our lives more and more to other people, this is the way you become more like Christ, spend your energy by loving God
If you just love God with all your heart all your mind all your might then you will love others.
We have to be willing to be vulnerable to other, do not isolate
I primarily ministered to Pastors, 670 Pastors & worship leaders, I found myself reminding them not to isolate, stop thinking of yourself as different, you are no greater than them.
If you're a great evangelist, there's no way you can have learned that on your own, you received that from the Holy Spirit, so how could you be prideful about something you had nothing to do with it.
The Holy Spirit equips those that have no credentials.
I've seen the janitors at www.calvarychapelcostamesa.com lit with the Holy Spirit.
Sometimes I remind the mega church Pastors, "The reason why you are where you are is because you started right..." that's what God wants me to say, to realize God is everything, we're just His sheep, the sheep of His Pastor.
The people no one has ever heard of will have great honor in the presence of God.
I don't want God to say, "You had your reward"
Paul was pouring himself out to the church, he was almost killed, flogged, imprisoned, stoned to death, but Paul went back to these cities
Acts20
1And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go into Macedonia.
2And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece,
3And there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia.
Paul was logical, wanted to live one more day to serve the Lord
Acts20
4And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.
5These going before tarried for us at Troas.
6And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.
a log that Dr. Luke was keeping, being a physicians, took meticulous notes, especially the healings
Acts20
7And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
Paul was sharing pouring out his heart until minute
Paul spoke until midnight
Acts20
8And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.
9And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
Eutychus fell asleep falls out the window
God can give you a greater attention span
Eutychus was dead
Acts20
10And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.
the Bible & Luke says, Eutychus was dead
Paul believed God would raise him from the dead
Acts20
11When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.
12And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.
rare type of miracle God used Paul to raise someone from the dead
Paul was confident he was healed so Paul departed, after that Eutychus was brought alive after being dead
Acts20
13¶And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot.
14And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene.
15And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus.
16For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.
17¶And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.
Paul wanted to make it on time to Jerusalem for the Passover
Acts20
18And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,
Paul's first time speaking of himself
Acts20
19Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
Paul is painting a picture of himself a man of humility
a person who comes in humility do not talk a lot,
people who don't talk seem to be wise
Paul considers everything he did to be necessary, he never though anything was accident
if we don't realize the walk of the ministry follows in the steps of the Lord who suffered
I know many people who don't want to suffer, have enough money, to have a buffer of people around him
God will ignore that person, God doesn't like celebrity Christianity
God wants humility
Jesus always rebuked of pride
humble yourself so you can be spiritually exalted
we don't understand this because it goes against our manly nature, to rise & be noticed
The person who serves the most is the greatest
If I minister in service to God because it pleases God then if I suffer I can rejoice because its what Jesus did
Paul was always accessible, he lived among the people he served, he mended tents,
he continued to minister in the synogogue
Acts20
20And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,
Paul gave everything away, he taught everything he knew, he probably gave away all he had
Leaders don't talk about their sins because they want to be looked up to
I tell people about my sins because i don't want to be looked up to
Paul taught house to house, there wasn't one large church building
Acts20
21Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul would not discriminate, this is the example Paul wanted to follow
Follow Jesus' correct path, follow what the apostles did particularly Paul
You see they didn't make themselves to be elite or protected, they trusted God would keep them alive until He was done using them
Philipians4:9, 1cor4:15-16; 10:33; 11:1
I use Pastor Chuck Smith because I have watched him for 40 years, he always lived humbly, he likes to work with his hands, he's not a perfectionist like Lee Jones. Chuck loves getting the hand drill out, drive screws in, it didn't matter if it was straight or not. He worked crazy to buy his house. Chuck's motto is to pay as much as you can so you don't have to owe or pay more than you have to. He's always picking up cigarette butts, cleaning gutters, he gets down & dirty, serving the Lord, he's a janitor for God
Paul says imitate me as I imitate Christ
Acts20
22And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:
The Holy Spirit is moving Paul to Jerusalem, though he faced opposition by people prophesying to Paul that he would have chains & tribulations await him.
Paul was bound by the Spirit, God is saying to Paul, "You're going there but you're going to suffer"
Acts20
23Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.
24But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
But Paul says but none of these things move me
its like when you have to go to the dentist to get your teeth drilled, pain
Paul is saying they were not going to deter Paul, he's not going to stop
People are begging him not to go, he says, "Why do you break my heart, I must go"
Agabus demonstrates Paul's hands would be tied...
Paul is running the race with joy to finish the crossline, to testify of the gospel of the grace of God.
Paul is saying God has given him a finish line
our finish line is to obey God until the end
Acts20
25And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
they would not see him again
Acts20
26Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.
Paul had a clear conscience
much is given much is required
don't seek to be a teacher because you will be held accountable
Eze3:17-21 I've given you to be a watchman... I give you something to say, if you don't say it, I will require it of you. when you tell him and he turns... if you don't tell... he dies, his blood I will require it of your hand...
That's the old testament
if in the new testament if God has called you to do something if you don't do it, then you are guilty of not being obedient to God and you are guilty
Acts20
27For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
28¶Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
what's more valuable than the blood of Jesus Christ?
Jesus' blood is to save all people
So shepherds are to shepherd the flock of God, to be an overseer, to feed the flock, serve, take care of, guard, oversees the development from beginning to end of his sheep
Jn 10:11
Acts20
29For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
wolves seeks to fleece the flock, to take advantage of the Christians by negativity saying negative things about the church where they attend
Acts20
30Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
wolf says things to cause Christians to follow them
a true shepherd will lead you to the True Shepherd Jesus Christ, they will teach you how to follow Jesus as seen in Acts20:27 by teaching the whole counsel of God, cover by cover, verse by verse
Acts20
31Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
32And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
33I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel.
34Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.
35I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
36¶And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.
37And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him,
38Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.
sad grevious farewell to Paul
Most of the people I started out with I never see. I know I'll see them soon.
The people I grieve for are those that I'm not sure are saved
That's why I want to do the work of an evangelist
Michelle went to a musician's camp learning the harp, she got lost, she picked up bicyclists family & took them, taking about Jesus
You can feel the light of the Lord pour through when you start speaking about Jesus Christ.
One woman said to Michelle, "I believe you because i can see Him in your eyes"
