next week www.harvest.org/crusades take those you've been praying for, invite them to to eat
Wed Acts20
Sundays we pray 9:15am-9:45
This morning Exodus 18 Moses' father in law comes to visit and says, "The things that you do are not good"
Michael Sewell last Fri night, Jodi, Mia and I were at Calvary Chapel... performing for the first time "Marriage Conspiracy". The marriages are on the line, ... the LORD told me to write something... two demons plot to destroy the marriage for two years. Every season there's some attack. We've had more spiritual warfare doing this. We've had lots of feedback, encouragment. We're praying this will be a tool the LORD uses to bless the marriages. Pray for us that the LORD uses us and gives us lots of booking. Thank you guys, we appreciate it. www.michaelsewell.com
Pastor Oden Fong:
That's the thing we approach things from the carnal psychological side of things but our battles are spiritual battles
People in ministry, there's a huge on slot spiritual warfare. Someone who was in ministry with me said, "Every Tuesday before ministry, I would get mad at you for no reason" its warfare
Jesus was tempted by Satan, Jesus was tempted all the time, can you imagine being tempted so that He wouldn't rise to the place of being the Messiah dying for the sins of this world.
Jesus had to endure so much. I can't even fathom. Satan hates the concept of real marriage.
We've come to a place where we choose if we're going to attack this battle through prayer or in our own ability. Every time Moses raised his hands he prevailed. But when Moses let down his hands the Amalekites prevailed
Religion tells people to behave and if you don't then Satan attacks you
But (KJV) 2 Corinthians 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
we have to realize this is important battle we're fighting. The marriage is very important. We have to be really careful on how we handle things, we must pray trusting God
I was rebuked on fb, I responded, "My fight is by praying interceding for our nation and for people"
Its hard to pray.
Christians don't pray very long because there's so much opposition when you pray.
Many people sing to God, but when you pray which is speaking to the God Almighty being still is warfare.
You need to eat of the word of God, to feast on it, digest it.
Its going to take a while to understand what God means and what God's word means to your life
If not then you just become religious people
Exodus18, Jethro
1When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;
2Then Jethro, Moses' father in law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her back,
3And her two sons; of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land:
4And the name of the other was Eliezer; for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh:
5And Jethro, Moses' father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God:
The children of Israel had come to the mount of God
We're never told why Moses' wife & two sons went back. So its not highly important
after several months they're reunited
Ex18
6And he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.
7¶And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent.
Moses was private when it came to personal matters, he doesn't mention falling upon his wife & sons to kiss them.
Moses respected his father in law
Ex18
8And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how the LORD delivered them.
9And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.
10And Jethro said, Blessed be the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
11Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them.
this was revealing to me, I pondered at verse 11
Jethro was not a believer, he was a priest of the Midianites, until Moses, then Jethro believed in the God of Moses
At the www.harvest.org/crusades I've seen countless people come and pray to receive the Lord, they confess with their mouths yet their lives have not changed and in fact they get worse. I believe the only way you can be assured of being a born again Christian is when there is fruit evidence of Jesus living in you.
Pastor Chuck Smith www.twft.com (800)272-5673 always taught us not to judge people but judge the fruit evidence.
The Christians that live like there's changes in their lives are not born again believers
Christians are not perfect but Christians have a desire to be different, to be more like God
Jethro believed in the God of Jehovah, Jethro had been with Moses and his sons, yet Jethro probably still worshipped his god. But everyone has to come to a place where you have to decide you're going to worship the one and only true God.
Jesus Christ has already accomplished salvation, everything that needs to be done as already been done on the cross.
are you one of the 10 virgins that have the oil in their lamps.
I'm concerned this morning because if you are here this morning and you're not serious about your relationship with God then I'm calling you to make your calling and election sure. make sure God's word, the seed falls on good ground.
Ex18
11Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them.
12And Jethro, Moses' father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God.
13¶And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.
Moses probably started this process of judging the people long before, dealing with the people of God & dealings of people living amongst themselves. Moses had two jobs not having much time for his family or eating.
This is Moses one of the most godly man, how can he do better than this?
Ex18
14And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?
Jethro says to Moses, "This is crazy, you're going to wear yourself out"
Ex18
15And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God:
16When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.
Moses was being a judicial judge & a priest to the people to make known to them the things of God
Ex18
17And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.
Moses is doing the best he could do
Ex18
18Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.
Jethro was trained in shepherding, knowing how to tend to the needs of flocks, also having time to think, realizing all the work was too much for Moses
There's a better method
Ex18
19Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:
continue to do this
Ex18
20And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
instead teach the people the laws and statutes of God so they could rightly judge for themselves
this makes sense
Moses would give spiritual guidance & judge judicially but there were to be appointed by Moses to judge over these matters
Ex18
21Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
22And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.
the leaders would judge but the greater matters would be brought to Moses
Just like our government, first to city, state, federal, on each level hoping the matter would be resolved
This gets set up immediately after Israel & the Amalekites with Moses getting help from Aaron & Hur, the Lord the Rock would be Moses' strength. Aaron & Hur assisting Moses
Ex18
23If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.
win win situation for the leaders, the people and for Moses
Ex18
24So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.
25And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
Moses chose himself the leaders, that means Moses knew his men
Ex18
26And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
27¶And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.
Acts6 the Apostles did something similar, when the disciples were getting into the 1000s of believers. There were complaints about unfair distribution accusations of racialism. So they chose Helenist who were the Grecians Jewish Christians to care for widows from their background
The people of the church can see who the leaders of the church are before the leaders can see.
I remember when I was at www.calvarychapelcostamesa.com the anointed Pastors were janitors. One of them was Rich Chaffen, Krissy's brother.
I yawned at some of the men that had all kinds of degrees, they probably knew Jesus but they were dry and didn't have the Holy Spirit
Rich Chaffen was lit, he was a janitor
Humble men of God know how to serve
www.michaelsewell.com was a janitor he knew how to serve
when you don't have a dream of being someone, being famous, ambition
Moses was in a place where he thought he could do nothing, he was an old shepherd with no confidence
(KJV) 1 Corinthians 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
so you don't need to go to Bible College or anything to be used by God
Greg Laurie was A.D.D.
Bob Coy was a gofer at www.calvarychapelcostamesa.com he began well, he didn't think he was qualified to do anything. I told him, God has exalted you because you didn't think you were qualified to do anything.
I hope my friends are always getting back to the place of humility, accessibility to the people, getting back to talking to people, homeless people. if you lose sight of that you can lose the anointing of God
Jesus was a friend of sinners, He allowed people to touch Him and He touched them
This is the leadership we need in the church
Acts6
1And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
2Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
3Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
5¶And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:
6Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
7And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
9¶Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
10And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.
11Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
12And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
13And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:
14For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.
15And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
greatness comes when you are humble
get back to a place where we teach people the statutes and laws of God
Orange County is a secular city, non believers have seen too many bad examples of Christians.
I'm calling you to step out of that
Tear down the walls, God hates it.
